As an internet marketer, you will learn that there are several important facets to running a successful online business. You have to be able to create quality content, effectively promote the business, and handle all of the customers that come in. Another facet that deserves just as much attention as all other areas is the design.
When a visitor first comes to your site, they are going to notice two things. The first thing they are going to notice is the headline. You want to have a headline that is bold and easy to read. You do not want to have some bland font, but make it presentable so people can understand what it says. Also, make it lively with a bright color that stands out.
The next thing people are going to notice is the background color. If you have an online business, you want to look professional while still being lively. Unless it is suitable for your business, you probably do not want to have a bright yellow or neon background. This will be distracting for the rest of the information on your site. Keep it exciting but simple.
As you go down the page, you want to keep a good balance between your content and graphics. You should not have all of your content on the top and all of the graphics on the bottom, or vice versa. Your graphics and content should interchange smoothly to where people do not even notice.
As for your graphics, keep it to a minimal amount. You certainly want to include graphics to keep the web site interactive and entertaining. But too many graphics just takes the focus away from your content. Try to avoid flashing banners and graphics if at all possible.
With graphics being on the page, these are going to tend to draw reader’s eyes in. Because of this, you want to make key points in your content stick out. You can do this by bolding certain words, hyper linking keywords, or enlarging certain phrases. This makes it so visitors know exactly what the most important information is.
The last thing you need to understand is to put your most important information above the fold. The fold is everything you can see when first entering a web site without having to scroll down. As soon as people have to scroll down to read or see information, they have gone below the fold. The reason you want to do this is because a number of people will not even bother scrolling down to see what else you have if they are not interested with their first impression.
It is amazing how much of an impact the design to your online business can have. But simple things like bolding keywords and keeping information above the fold can make a world of a difference for your web site.
