One of the most common injuries is the back injury; they vary in pain and some people suffer more than others. This article should not be considered as a doctor’s perspective, and instead viewed as a long time back sufferers perspective. Like any topic you come across on the internet regarding your health, it should not be substituted for your doctor.
If the worst occurs and you suffer from a back injury or find yourself with persistent muscle pain in the back, then it’s highly advised that you visit a doctor. Unless you have visited a chiropractor in the past, and been cured of your problem, then this option should not be considered before a doctor. One example of the worst case scenario if you visit a chiropractor to help with your back problem, is if you have crack a bone in your back the chiropractor could potentially make it much worse, given that they do not use x-rays.
One of the main mistakes people make is wearing a weight belt; this should only be considered if a doctor or a physical trainer has said so. Use of a weight belt will generally end up in a different back injury, which is the last thing you want. The only acceptable time that a weight belt would be acceptable is if you are currently weight training. By not wearing a belt whilst training will force your back to adapt and thus make it stronger over time, you should remember however not to overdo the training and instead over time increase the weight you put on your back. When in the first stages of recovering from a back injury, there are certain things you can do to help your recovery, back raises mixed with squats and deadlifts for example can be very beneficial to help with a speedy recovery.
If you find yourself needing back surgery to your back, then do not try to use your back to pick up objects, however trivial you think they are, whether it’s a paper clip or a fridge, when you can always maintain a straight back position. When you feel your back is recovering well, it’s good to start with a few small exercises and then gradually work up to those discussed in earlier paragraphs. One final thought is to make sure your mattress supports your back fully, stay away from those that dip in the middle.
