By now, you have heard someone talk about going green and you, yourself, have probably jumped on the wagon to outfit your home and clothing to be green. While it's a new thing to do, it's got some meaning behind it that's deeper than most people really understand. By going green, it means you want to save the planet from being in peril.
Each day, people are destroying the environment by driving cars, riding in buses, using chemicals on food or clothing and even using electricity that takes oil, coal or natural gas. When you go green, you make a pledge to be more eco-friendly to the Earth's environment each day.
No doubt, you are used to using the electricity that comes into your home by way of a grid that may use coal or natural gas. No one wants to give up that electricity for the olden days of candles. Why would they?
If you want an approach that's going to work, you need to find a way each person can get the electricity they want while saving the environment. It's time each person becomes aware of the damage being inflicted upon the air and makes a change for the greater good.
If you need help in getting started on how you can protect the environment from this day forward, here are six tips to help you out.
First, don't dry your clothes via a clothes dryer. Instead, take your clothes out of the washer and dry them on a clothesline, weather permitting, especially during the spring, summer and fall seasons.
Worried about the wrinkles? Actually, the wind and sun will get rid of them for you. Line drying your clothes is good for the environment, your clothes and your wallet.
Why your wallet? Dryers suck up a lot of energy when they are being used often. Look at your next electric or gas bill (dependent on your dryer type) and see how much of a difference is between your two bills.
Second, stay away from paper or plastic shopping bags when you go grocery shopping for little things. Instead, take along a tote bag and put all your items in the bag. Depending on the size of the tote bag, you can get a lot of things in it.
Third, avoid products with high amounts of fragrance such as bleach. Instead, purchase organic detergents to clean your clothes. Eco-friendly products tend to make your clothes smell fresher too.
Fourth, change your light bulbs to compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs). They can reduce the amount of electricity you use and work just like a regular light bulb.
Fifth, whenever you leave a room, switch off the light or turn off the television set. Unplug or turn off items when you are not using them.
Sixth, recycle and reuse items instead of tossing them into landfills that are overflowing. If you have clothes, donate them to a charity or make yourself have a yard sale.
These are just six simple, starter tips that you can use to save the environment. If you are truly serious about going green and making an impact on the environment, begin simple and progress from there.
